Hello Chipmunk fans, (Soccer Update)

Saturday afternoon at SIT's soccer field was no place for the timid. The fur was flying from the opening kick as the undefeated Chipmunks
took on the invading, experienced Putney warriors. The first half was an aggressive defensive battle. Neither team nor player backed down
from the tenacious style of play that was to define this match. This mutual combative play led to the first score of the game. The Chipmunks
Francesco broke free with a shot at the goal, but was taken down by a Putney player. SIT's "Italian Stallion" wasted no time in putting the Munks
in the lead as Francesco drilled a shot in the corner net far out of reach of the Putney goalie.

A physical battle ensued after Francesco's goal and Putney scored to tie the game about halfway thru the first half. The cool cloudy weather
may have played a part in the less than capacity crowd expected, but it in know way diminished the enthusiasm of the players and fans in attendance.
As with the Chipmunks opening game with Bennington College we ended the first half in a 1-1 tie, but feeling confident. The brutal play of the first half
left the Chipmunks suffering from cuts, bruises, and sprains, but the Munks desire to win was equivalent to a shot of novocain to the pains they shared.

Putney's maturity and experience was evident as they took over early onto in the second half. Although Putney scored to take the lead in the second half
the Chipmunks were not intimidated and fought on with everyone getting into the action...Adam x 2, Kelly, Jeremiah, Kim, Eric x 2, Berkend, Becca, Long, Allison,
Nicole, Danny, Britney, Francesco and Coach Kazu. Even Doug an SIT graduate who sacrificed broken ribs in a match at Marboro showed up to spur on his teamamtes. Once Putney scored to make it 2-1 their teams experience took control of the game and it looked like the Chipmunks undefeated record was in jeopardy. Even with just 5 minutes left in the game and down by one score the spirits of the Chipmunks were lofty because they knew they owned a not so secret weapon in the Nations leading scorer Eric Peterson. Eric did not disappoint anyone. With just minutes remaining Eric executed a spectacular shot while being taken out by man Putney. Putney's aggressive play did not interrupt the direction of Eric's kick and the Chipmunks tied the score making it 2-2.

Coach Kazu entered the game with minutes to go in efforts to inspire the Munks onto victory, but an unexpected shot from Putney with two minutes to go
put them in the lead that the Chipmunks could not overcome. Last minute heroic efforts by Kazu, Francesco, Eric and Adam proved fruitless as the Chipmunks
experienced the sour taste of their first loss. The Chipmunks may have lost a little fur Saturday afternoon, but they won the respect of the SOCCER WORLD.
Kasu's Chipmunks have a legendary coach, the nations leading scorer and the most beautiful, talented female gender teammates anyone could ask for. The Chipmunks
are a team to be reckoned with and the soccer world should be "a feared" of the small stripped squirrels.

Hello all Chipmunk fans,

On a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon amongst the rolling hills of Brattleboro, the SIT Chipmunks soccer team put on a magnificent performance on their home field as they started their 2009 season with a win. Lead by legendary SIT coach Kazu, the Chipmunks hard preseason work rewarded them with a 3-1 win over visiting Bennington College. Early on it was a defensive struggle for both teams, but then our own Adam Hommeyer took control and executed a spectacular head shot on a perfect pass to put the first score on the board. The capacity filled SIT stadium went wild singing out cheers in various languages while waving Chipmunk banners. Adam's score even got the attention of the tailgaters as they joined in on the celebration.

The euphoria was short lived as Bennington collected themselves and tied the game with a corner shot just
out of reach of our goalie and our Turkish classmate. That Bennington score resulted in the first half ending in a stalemate. Coach Kazu's halftime fiery speech will go down in history alongside Notre Dame's Knute Rockine's spill of "Win one for the Gipper." Everyone's awareness of Kazu leaving SIT at the end of the semester brought
emotions into the game and SIT was motivated. Eric Peterson took control almost immediately and put SIT in the lead early on into the second half with another amazing show of athleticism shooting one into Bennington's net. Eric's goal inspired all the Chipmunks, especially Nicole Davis. Nicole was pumped up, got physical and started "taking out" any Bennington player that even thought about coming close to our goal. With about 15 minutes left in the match SIT graduate Eric Weisenberger sealed the win with a shot that was worthy of an ESPN highlight replay.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Chipmunks!!! The Chipmunks thank everyone for their showing and overwhelming
support which spurred them on to victory. The team will be on the road for the next two games, but y'all are
welcome to join us in support. The Chipmunks look forward to seeing EVERYONE at our next home game on
the 10th of October. BTW, we have discovered that not all students are aware that SIT has a soccer team and
that any student can play regardless of your gender or experience. If anyone is interested in playing for the
undefeated Chipmunks please let me know. Thanks, and GO CHIPMUNKS!!!
